Our client’s Digital Solutions (HDS) is an integrated global group of over 3500 technologists and commercial thinkers, working across offices in London, India, China, Hong Kong, the US, Canada, Poland and Mexico. Our client is building digital solutions that will impact the lives of over 41 million customers worldwide. The work of the Digital teams includes developing new mobile apps and online experiences; using digital messaging to enhance customer relationships; building and improving the underlying technology and security platforms; and innovating propositions to take advantage of the new innovation. This specific role sits within the newly formed Digital Cloud Services function. This function is driving innovation across the bank through the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud offerings. The team is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing operational support of AWS services for the client’s digital business. The AWS engineers will work with project teams building highly scalable and performant AWS cloud infrastructure in an automated and efficient manner. The DevOps engineers will work alongside the central Cloud Services function, Application DevOps teams and cross-functional IT teams. The engineers will be required to use their initiative to innovate to achieve maximum performance and be prepared to investigate and use new products/services offered by AWS.

What you will be doing:
• Work across one or more application development DevOps ‘pods’ as the Amazon Web Services (AWS) engineer
• Lead innovation and R&D activities to propose new solutions to improve performance and efficiency
• Build and manage Cloud environments to enable application deployments
• Engineer solutions on Digital Cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code methods (e.g. Terraform)
• Consume and deploy centrally provided common cloud services for business unit / application DevOps teams (e.g. domain services, networking, logging.)
• Consume centrally agreed base AMI’s and develop & maintain business line specific AMI’s
• Ensure compliance with centrally defined Digital Cloud blueprints, design patterns and standards
• Build and support continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD) and continuous testing activities
• Engineering activities to implement patches provided centrally by Cloud Services
• Support non-functional testing of Digital Cloud services
• Update support and operational documentation as required
• Provide impact assessments where requested for changes proposed on Digital Cloud services

What you will bring to the role:

Experience of building a range of AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3, Lambda, Databases (e.g. DynamoDB, RDS)…
• Expert understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure as a Code concepts and techniques
• Strong understanding of CI/CD and available tools
• Security and Compliance, e.g. IAM and cloud compliance/auditing/monitoring tools
• Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Cloud Services, Application DevOps, cross functional IT and global/local IT teams
• Good leadership and teamwork skills – Works collaboratively with DevOps application ‘pods’ to provide the digital cloud capability/skills required to deliver the service

Operational effectiveness – delivers solutions that align to approved design patterns and security standards
• Risk management effectiveness
• Excellent skills in at least one of following: Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, Groovy, Scala
• Experienced in full automation and configuration management
• A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
• Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
• Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same

A successful track record of delivering complex projects and/or programmes, utilising appropriate techniques and tools to ensure and measure success
• A comprehensive understanding of risk management and

proven experience of ensuring own/others’ compliance with relevant regulatory processes
Essential Skills Desirable Skil

Demonstrable Amazon Web Services experience – infrastructure build and configurations of a variety of AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, databases (e.g. RDS, DynamoDB) and VPC configurations
• Demonstrable experience of Linux administration and scripting preferably Red Hat
• Experience of working with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD) and continuous testing tools
• Experience working within an Agile environment
• Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, Groovy, Scala
• Server administration (either Linux or Windows)
• Automation scripting (using scripting languages such as Terraform, Ansible etc.)
• Ability to quickly acquire new skills and tools
• AWS Certifications – ideally professional
• Linux Certification
• Windows Server Certification
• Experience operating in highly regulated industry, e.g. Financial Services
